KANCHI VARADARAJA SWAMY TEMPLE

Kanchi Varadaraja is a deeply revered manifestation of Bhagawan Vishnu with rich historical, architectural, and spiritual significance centered in the Varadaraja Perumal Temple in Kanchipuram.

ATTI VARADAR - A SPECIAL RITUAL

Atthi Varadar is an ancient idol of Sri Varadaraja Swamy made of wood. The wood is of a tree called Atthi (fig) and hence it is called Atthi Varadar. It is a tradition to keep it immersed under water in the Varadaraja Swamy temple tank (Kalyani) called Ananda Saras. The speciality of atthi wood is that it remains intact even when kept in water. The idol is taken out once in about 40 years and kept for darshan for a period of 48 days.

SRI SATYAPOORNA TEERTHARU & KANCHI

The 22nd pontiff of Sri Uttaradi Matha Parampara, Sri Sri Satyapoorna Teertharu, the successor of Sri SatyabhinavaTeertharu maintained Kanchipuram as his Seva Kshetra. Sri Satyapoorna Teertharu offered a diamond pendant called Satypoorna Padaka to Varadaraja Swamy which is adorned on by the diety even today. It is indeed a proud feeling for us to have the Sri Uttaradi Matha branch in such a sacred town. The Sri Uttaradi Matha at Kanchi has a history of several centuries. Many pontiffs of Sri Uttaradi Math Guru parampare have offered seva here which is mentioned in the stone inscriptions in the temple premises. The Sri Matha has the idol of Mukhyaprana Devaru and Mruthika Sannidhana of Sri Satyapoorna Tirtharu and Sri Raghavendra Swamigalu. There are Utsava Murtis of Sri Bhoo Sameta Sri Varadaraja Swamy in the Matha. The Matha is also known as Satyapoorna Matha.

ANNUAL BRAHMOTSAVAM CELEBRATIONS

The Varadaraja Perumal Temple conducts Brahmotsavam annually which is a delight to the visiting devotees. During these grand celebrations, it has been an ancient tradition to offer Annadana to visiting devotees and perform Jnana Yajna. This practice has been meticulously followed since the times of Sri Sri 1008 Sri Satyapoorna Teertha Sripadangalavaru. A large crowd gathers at Sri Matha during the Annual Brahmotsavam.

ACCOMODATIONS & TEERTHAPRASADA

The Sri Matha branch consists of well maintained AC & Non-AC rooms . Teerthaprasada facility is available at the Kshetra, devotees are requested to utilise these facilities. Since Kanchi is one of the 7 moksha puris, it is an ideal place to perform Tirtha Vidhi (Shraadha), whenever a devotee comes to Kanchi. The city has a large number of ancient temples that are worth visiting and having darshan.

SATYAPOORNA BHAVANA

A full fledged building with function hall with some rooms and dining place and lift facility is available in the Sri Matha Premises for arranging functions such as Upanayana, Marriage, Namakarana and various occasions adjoining the divine sannidhana of Gurugalu and in the sacred kshetra of Sri Varadaraja Swamy.

LOCATION & HOW TO REACH

Kanchipuram is a famous town in Tamil Nadu, easily reachable from Chennai or Bengaluru. Sri Uttaradi Matha in Kanchi is within walking distance from Varadaraja Swamy Temple. Kanchi is around 5 hours drive from Bengaluru (278 Km). Bus : Most of the buses going to Chennai stop at Kanchipuram. Devotees coming from Chennai can reach Kanchipuram in a 2 hours (72 Km). Devotees coming from Telengana or other parts of Tamilnadu can also come to Katpadi junction by train and then take a bus or cab to Kanchipuram.
