Sati

Sati was the consort of Lord Shiva. She was born to daksha and prasUti. Once daksha insults Lord Shiva and did not offer his ablutions in his Sacrifice. Sati, goes to the sacrifice, out of love towards here parents, without being invited. Lord Shiva asks her not to go where she was not invited. But, she does not heed to Lord Shiva's advice. She goes to the sacrifice of daksha. But, unable to bear the insult heaped upon her and her husband, she ends her life in flames created from her own body as she did not want to be anymore called as the daughther of daksha, who has insulted Lord Shiva. She was later born as pArvati and marries Lord Shiva after performing great penance.
