sa~njAtakopAkulitaH dharAsuraH mahAtmanAM la~NghanabhIruH api alam .

anvayaH:
dharAsuraH alam mahAtmanAM la~NghanabhIruH api sa~njAtakopAkulitaH sutasya kaupInadhR^itau hi sAhasapratishravaH me dR^iDhaH iti abhAShata.
anvayArthaH:
dharAsuraH = The brahmin alam = greatly; mahAtmanAM = of the devotees of the Lord; la~NghanabhIruH = fearing to offend; api = also; sa~njAtakopAkulitaH = became disturbed due to anger; sutasya = of the son; kaupInadhR^itau = wearing of the loin cloth(accepting sanyasa); hi = indeed; sAhasapratishravaH = some extreme step such as fasting unto death; me = by me; dR^iDhaH = is certain; iti = thus; abhAShata = spoke.
Summary:
Madhyageha Bhatta was of God fearing nature and would normally does not offend the devotees of the Lord. But on hearing the decision of his son to take up sanyasa, out of anger, he became very disturbed. He spoke thus to vAsudeva - “If you wear the loin cloth and thus accept sanyasa, it is certain that I would take the extreme step of fasting unto-death”.
