Sumadhva Vijaya 2.17

trAtA ya eva narakAt sa hi putranAma mukhyAvanaM na sulabhaM puruShAdapUrNAt .

tasmAtsamastavidapatyamavadyahInaM vidyAkarAkR^iti labhemahi kairupAyaiH ..17..

padacChedaH:

trAtA yaH eva narakAt saH hi putranAma mukhyAvanaM na sulabhaM puruShAt apUrNAt tasmAt samastavit apatyam avadyahInam vidyAkarAkR^iti labhemahi kaiH upAyaiH .

anvayaH:

yaH eva narakAt trAtA saH hi putranAma apUrNAt puruShAt mukhyAvanaM na sulabhaM tasmAt samastavit avadyahInam vidyAkarAkR^iti apatyam kaiH upAyaiH labhemahi .

anvayArthaH:

yaH eva = whoever would definetly narakAt = from hell trAtA = protect [from hell] saH hi = he only putranAma = is fit to be called as a putra(son) apUrNAt puruShAt = from a person of lesser knowledge mukhyAvanaM = utmost protection na sulabhaM = not possible tasmAt = therefore samastavit = an all-knowing avadyahInam = blemishless vidyAkarAkR^iti = a personification of knowledge apatyam = son kaiH upAyaiH = why what means labhemahi = do we get?.

Summary:

Whoever would definetly protect his parents from hell is only fit to be called as a son. Utmost protection is not possible from a person of lesser knowledge. Therefore, by what means do we get an all-knowing, blemishless son who is the personification of knowledge?
